Who is a Kannadiga?

A Kannadiga is more than someone born in Karnataka. It is someone who speaks Kannada, understands its culture, celebrates its traditions, carries its values, or simply feels a deep connection with Karnataka.

From the bustling streets of Bengaluru to the coastal towns of Mangaluru, the heritage of Mysuru, the coffee hills of Kodagu, the historic lands of Hampi and Badami, and the northern districts of Karnataka — Kannadigaru are wonderfully diverse.

Different regions. Different accents. Different traditions. One language that brings us together — Kannada.

A Community of Millions 

Kannada is one of India's major languages. According to the 2011 Census, 43.7 million people identified Kannada as their mother tongue, while the total number of Kannada speakers, including those who reported it as a second or third language, was about 58.8 million.

And the Kannada story doesn't stop at Karnataka.

Kannadigaru live, work and study across India and around the world — from Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad to Dubai, London, Singapore, Sydney, Toronto and the United States.

Some left Karnataka for education.
Some for careers and business.
Some followed their families.
Some built new lives thousands of kilometres away.

But many carry something from home with them:
